GA Drilling is developing next generation drilling technologies to unlock geothermal energy anywhere on Earth. Our mission is to make geothermal a globally scalable, baseload source of clean power by enabling access to hard, hot rock at depths and temperatures that conventional drilling cannot reach economically.
Our work demands mastery across all facets of engineering—electronics, hydraulics, mechanics, systems, and control—and project management to create products that can survive and perform in harsh, high-temperature, high-load downhole conditions. Our technologies include smart downhole anchoring and drive systems that control the drilling process at the bit, plasma-based rock-destruction systems that fracture rock ahead of the drill bit, and innovative reeled drillstrings that redefine how hard-rock wells are constructed. These innovations—whether deployed individually or integrated into a groundbreaking autonomous reeled drilling system—enable hard-rock wells to be drilled further, faster, and safer than conventional technologies. With engineering teams in the USA, Brazil, the UK, and across Europe, and strong collaboration with leading operators, GA Drilling is progressing rapidly toward commercial deployment of these technologies.
We are seeking a technician with 5+ years’ experience testing and manufacturing for downhole drilling systems, as well as prototyping operating and debugging the associated test equipment.
You will be based at our UK (Tewkesbury) office.
You will own
- Assembly and Maintenance: Assemble, disassemble, inspect, and perform preventative maintenance on MWD/LWD (Logging While Drilling) tools and associated equipment according to technical specifications and procedures.
- Troubleshooting and Repair: Diagnose and repair malfunctions in electronic circuitry, components, and systems using various test equipment such as oscilloscopes and multimeters.
- Testing and Calibration: Conduct functional tests, performance evaluations, and calibrations on equipment to ensure compliance with quality standards and manufacturer specifications.
- Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate and detailed service records, calibration logs, and repair documentation. Generate reports on work performed and equipment status.
- Technical Interpretation: Read and interpret complex technical drawings, schematics, blueprints, and engineering instructions to facilitate assembly and repair processes.
- Collaboration: Coordinate efforts with other technicians, engineers, and field representatives to resolve complex issues, support failure analysis initiatives, and ensure seamless equipment deployment.
- Inventory Management: Assist with maintaining an organized work environment and managing inventory of electronic components, parts, and supplies.
- Safety and Compliance: Adhere to all health, safety, and environmental (HSE) regulations and quality procedures to ensure safe work practices.
What we expect from you:
- A technical school certificate in electronics, electrical technology, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
- 5+ years of experience working with electronics, preferably in an industrial or oilfield environment.
- Proficiency in using electronic test equipment (e.g., multimeters, oscilloscopes) and hand tools.
- Soldering skills (wire harness, surface mount and through-hole).
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
- Basic computer literacy and familiarity with diagnostic software for data entry and analysis.
- Ability to read, understand, and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and diagrams.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, for effective collaboration and reporting..
What we offer:
- Opportunity to develop unique and innovative technological solutions which have the potential to change the world.
- The satisfaction of solving challenges associated with making ultra-deep geothermal energy a commercial reality.
- Be part of an experienced, global and highly motivated team.
- Collaborate with the world’s top industry players.
- Competitive industry compensation & benefits
